DNS, Register, and IMEISV

22 10 2005

Finally after 7 days my email and domain name work. Typepad has an efficient service for setting up a blog and supporting CNAME. Its not Register’s fault that it takes days for DNS to propagate and their care was really helpful. I used the chat services for support and they were quick to notice some errors in aliasing my domain and email. Now back to the new topic of mobile in my life, IMEISV.

IMEISV = TAC + FAC + SNR + SVN
-IMEI Internal Mobile Equipment Identity
-TAC Type Approval Code, determined by a central GSM/PCS body
-FAC Final Assembly Code, identifies the manufacturer
-SNR Serial Number, uniquely identifies all equipment within each TAC and FAC

On GSM networks 3GPP introduced SV support for a variety of services, one being tracking buggy devices in production. Its a good thing, just hope Operators get it working.

First Blog

17 10 2005

This is my first blog.  I’ve been reading many blogs from friends, Dave Adams and Russ Beattie, in the mobile space and I always said to myself…"I should do that too."    So now after months of reminding myself to do this, I’ve finally done it!  Whew!  I’m getting used to the typepad tools and finding out there are limits in the tools but with some creativity, I should be able to format and get the design set.

Since I’m a mobility guru, I wanted to dedicate some time to mobile services and trends. We have enough blog resources on mobile devices and gadgets, and there’s a gap in service trends and what OMA and 3GPP has in store for us.   For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been in mobile since 1999.  I started the group what is now known today as SeattleMobile.org back then, and have had a blast working in this space, its helped me travel the world.  Mobile Data really rocks and I’m always excited to see what’s coming next.

–Peace out everyone
